MOSES LAKE - Columbia Basin Secondary School (CBSS) boys basketball picked up its first win of the year after defeating Wilson Creek, 75-51.

The Phoenix are now 1-2 after suffering defeats to Kittitas and Pateros to start the season.

Both teams played evenly to open the game slugging it out to a 12-12 tie after the first quarter. The Phoenix were able to create some separation behind strong play from Kyrelle Buckley and Dan Sielaff. The two combined for 21 points in the first half and CBSS led 34-23 at half.

The Phoenix extended their lead after halftime holding the Blue Devils to nine points in the third quarter and led 59-32 heading into the final stanza.

Head coach Bob McCaffery played mostly reserves in the fourth quarter and CBSS cruised to a 75-51 win in the Central Washington B league matchup.

"We are going through some growing pains as a team, but with each game we are showing improvements and getting better," he said. "Tonight's game was a team effort with each player getting quality playing time."

Sielaff led the Phoenix offense with 21 points, while Buckley contributed 19. Stephen Deines also added 15 points. Wilson Creek's Julio Gomez scored a game-high 25 points.

Currently Sielaff and Buckley are averaging 20 and 15 point per game, respectively.
