SANDPOINT - Senior Thomas Edwards dropped in a season-high 24 points, including 14 in a pivotal first half, to lead Sandpoint to a decisive 70-47 win over East Valley in nonleague boys basketball Saturday night at Les Rogers Court.

Edwards made 9 of 15 field goals, including 4 of 7 from long range, and the Bulldogs held East Valley to just four second-quarter points to help blow the game open.

"It was really tight, then we had a nice big run before the half," said Bulldogs head coach Tyler Haynes, whose team led 30-17 at half. "We played really hard."

The new-look, up-tempo Bulldogs (5-2) continue to push the pace and fire away from beyond the arc, putting up 25 third-quarter points and making 9 of 17 as a team from beyond the arc for the game. Jeremiah Gagnon hit his season average of 18 points, and the Bulldogs held the Knights (3-3) to just 1 of 17 shooting from beyond the arc.

Sandpoint plays next at the Lake City tournament on Jan. 2.

SPOKANE - Coeur d'Alene shot 42 percent from the field, but the Vikings could not slow down Ferris star guard Cody Benzel as he scored 36 points in handing the Vikings their first loss of the season.

Benzel, a first team all-Greater Spokane League selection, helped the Saxons (6-0) shoot 28 of 36 from the field, including 21 of 24 from inside the 3-point line.

"He's an awfully good player," Coeur d'Alene coach Kurt Lundblad said. "He's fun to watch, but unfortunately for us it was against us. He showed he's the real deal. Ferris was just super tonight and we were the exact opposite. Hats off to their team. We had no answer for Cody Benzel, they did a great job sharing the ball and making us play defense".

The Vikings (4-1) shot 19 for 45, including 17 of 35 from inside the 3-point line.

"This one's on me," Lundblad said. "I didn't have our kids prepared. I didn't have our kids ready to execute and defend."

Devin Kluss scored 14 points and Justin Carpenter added 11 to pace Cd'A.

Coeur d'Alene plays Thursday at 5:15 p.m. in the Coeur d'Alene Inn-vitational against Prairie of Vancouver, Wash., at North Idaho College.

"We were a little bit sluggish from a four-hour bus trip," St. Maries coach John Bisson said. "We picked it up in the second quarter and tied them up after being down by 10. We played evenly throughout the second half. They were 15 for 24 from the free-throw line. We were 6 of 14 from the free-throw line, so we pretty much lost it at the line."

St. Maries guard Cody Posselt nailed a 3-pointer at the halftime buzzer.

Jacob Greer and Logan Feasline both had eight rebounds for the Lumberjacks (1-3, 0-1 CIL).
