ROYAL CITY - Royal Middle School students are finding that there is lots of "dough" in cookie dough.

The school completed its annual fundraiser last week and, as in the past four years, the students sold their goal of 1,000 tubs of cookie dough.

"We had looked for fundraiser activities for several years before settling on the cookie dough program," RMS Principal Dave Jaderlund said.

The students sold six types of cookie dough. White Chocolate Macadamia and Chocolate Chunk were the big sellers.

The sixth grade sold the largest amount of dough at 528 tubs. The seventh grade sold 249 tubs, and the eighth grade sold 223.

"We feel very fortunate to live in a community that supports this program and really want to thank our parents," Jaderlund said.

Jaderlund noted this fundraiser helps pay for the field trips each grade level attends. It is three intensive weeks of selling and an even more hectic day of distributing when the cookies are delivered.

"Fortunately, the results are three great field trips for our kids and chaperones and experiences many of them would never get otherwise," Jaderlund said.

The sixth-graders attend the three-day Camp Casey trip at Whidbey Island. The trip is filled with many educational opportunities as well as personal experiences. For the chaperones, it is three days of hard work but a lot of fun.

The seventh-graders attend Science Weather Day in Seattle, culminating with a Seattle Mariners baseball game followed by pizza on the way home. It's a long day but a great experience.

The eighth-grade students go to Silverwood in Idaho and often tie the trip to Science Day there or a Student Talent Show. Students come back late, tired and full but buzzing about the great trip.
