Othello, Ephrata compete at SunDome Tournament

YAKIMA - Basin wrestlers traveled to Yakima recently for the 23rd annual SunDome Tournament.

Othello placed fourth with 145.5 points and Ephrata placed sixth with 133.5 points. Over the course of the tournament, the Huskies had six wrestlers place.

Isaiah Barrera took first in the 106-pound weight class defeating Sunnyside's Jacob Mendoza 7-4 in the championship match.

Barrera finished third at last year's state tournament.

Alec Lauriano placed fourth in the 120-pound weight class and Manny Martinez finished third at 132 pounds. Lorenzo Garza placed sixth at 138 pounds. Anthony Ruiz (220 lbs.) and Bubba Ruiz (285 lbs.) left the SunDome with a pair of third place finishes.

Ephrata's Tyrus Kemp (195 lbs) claimed back-to-back SunDome wins after defeating Ellensburg's Jason Glenn 1-0. Kemp is the defending 2A state champion and will wrestle at Central Michigan University next season.

Tiger teammate Dalton Balentine secured a win in the 170-pound weight class with a narrow 3-2 victory over David Cantu of Grandview.

Ephrata's Julian Adame (152 lbs.) and Bryce Unruh (160 lbs.) both placed sixth in Yakima. Nikita Wall finished eighth at 138 pounds to round out the placers for the Tigers.

Othello is back on the mat Jan. 4 for the PNW Classic at University High School. Ephrata also returns to action Jan. 4 at the Cat Classic at Eastmont High School.
