COEUR d'ALENE - Coeur d'Alene and Post Falls both went 3-0 at the Coeur d'Alene Inn-vitational on Rolly Williams Court.

But neither Vikings coach Kurt Lundblad nor Trojans coach Mike McLean were too thrilled about their performances.

Lundblad was a little more pleased after a 59-42 thumping of Prairie of Vancouver, Wash., and the first-year coach liked what he saw during the three-day boys basketball tournament.

"We've got a lot to work on," Lundblad said. "But I thought we played hard all three nights in the tournament. Despite having some kids out, I thought we had guys step up and did a great job and we learned we have a lot of kids that can play."

Lundblad said he expects Michael Hicks, who has been out with a torn ligament in his ankle, to return for the Vikings' next game, Jan. 7 at Lake City.

"He goes to the doctor Monday morning," Lundblad said of Hicks. "He's felt a lot better the past couple of days, so we expect him to go at least 75 percent on Monday or Tuesday (in practice)."

Lundblad said guard Colby Daniels, who recently had his appendix removed, could return within two weeks.

During the win over the Falcons, a well-balanced diet of inside buckets, 3-pointers and stellar defense did the trick, especially during a 14-4 run that put the Vikings ahead by 20, 47-27.

Coeur d'Alene guard Justin Carpenter and forward Devin Kluss both made the all-tournament team, along with James Phillips, who was held to two points for Prairie (4-4). Phillips scored 35 points on Friday night in a 77-39 win over Eisenhower.

"I don't really care about individual accolades," Carpenter said. "This is a team effort. A lot of people on this team deserved to be named to the all-tournament team. We've got a lot of quality depth on this team."

Carpenter, who made the all-tournament team for the second straight season, scored 10 points for the Viks. Kluss scored 12 points and Tony Naccarato scored a team-high 14 points and he picked up six rebounds. Ryan Walde scored six points, had four assists and three steals. Freshman forward Joey Naccarato added six points and 10 rebounds.

Coeur d'Alene led at halftime, 33-23.

Post Falls 66, Kelowna 38: Post Falls senior point guard Nick Hall was named the Most Valuable Player of the tournament after he scored 15 points in the nonleague rout, helping the Trojans win their fourth game in a row.

Post Falls trailed 11-3 after the first quarter, but roared back to go on a 23-7 run in the second quarter to take a 26-18 halftime lead and extended its lead to 50-24 after the third quarter.

"I wasn't expecting it," said Hall, who was named to an all-tournament team for the first time in his career. "I learned what we can be like. When we're bad, we can be pretty bad. When we're good, we're pretty good."

Joe Pfennigs, who had a strong all-around game with seven points, five rebounds, five assists and two steals, was also named to the all-tournament team. Corey Koski had nine points and six rebounds and Drake Bowers added five boards for Post Falls (7-3), which travels to Bothell (Wash.) on Friday.

"This was the most disappointing this current group has had all year," Post Falls coach Mike McLean said. "The games we've lost, with all due respect to Chiawana (who beat the Trojans 60-54 on Dec. 14) and Kennewick (who won 76-71 on Dec. 10), I think we beat ourselves. We missed shots, there was a lack of concentration and a lack of mental execution ... we expect better from ourselves."

Buster Truss scored 12 points and Parker Simson added 10 for the Owls (7-4), who went 1-2 in the tournament.
