Fireworks will light up Lake Coeur d'Alene and the Rathdrum Prairie on Tuesday night as revelers ring in the new year.

Shows will be held on the lake at 9 p.m. and midnight as part of the lake cruises that The Coeur d'Alene Resort offers.

A "Let Freedom Ring" show will also be held at 6:45 p.m. sharp in Rathdrum off Lancaster Road and west of Highway 41. The show is sponsored by Golden Spike Estates, Edge Home Roofing and MarketPad.com, all Rathdrum businesses.

"It's a celebration of veterans and military personnel, what they do for the country," said Jill Spiker, who helps organize the event.

Spiker said the show will last six to eight minutes.

"It will be pretty spectacular and worthwhile to watch," she said. "The show should be able to be seen from most of the Rathdrum Prairie."

The fireworks will be fired from George Thayer's field. The Northern Lakes Fire District will be on hand to ensure safety.

Viewers are asked not to park in the fields on the prairie or along Highway 41, but should use arterial roads such as Lancaster, Wyoming, Greensferry, Radiant Lake, Nagel and Meyer instead.

The Patriot Guard of Post Falls will be at Golden Spike Estates with flags in hand to salute veterans.

This will be the fourth year the businesses have sponsored the show.

They have also sponsored one on July 3 in honor of veterans and military personnel for the past three years.

Spiker said Rathdrum didn't have many community fireworks shows before the shows in recent years.

"The residents are beginning to look forward to it both on July 3 and New Year's Eve each year," she said. "Local business and community donations have been slow in funding the show, but the sponsors are starting to see some donations come in with a first-time donation from the City of Rathdrum for the July 3 show."

Spiker said the sponsors donate their time to set up the show, which defrays the cost.

Spiker said the Wilco-SuperCut Bandsaw Co. of Rathdrum came through with a donation to help support the New Year's Eve show as it has done in previous years, but donations are still being sought to help pay for the display.

Donations can be made at Washington Trust Bank in the Stein's Family Grocery in Rathdrum or at www.MarketPad.com/RathdrumFireworksGroup.

Tickets for the fireworks cruises on Lake Coeur d'Alene can be booked by calling (800) 688-5253.

Cost for the 9 p.m. fireworks display costs $15 per person. Boarding is at 7:30 p.m. and the cruise returns at 9:30 p.m.

Dessert is included with the midnight display. Cost is $35 for adults and $20 for kids. Boarding is at 10:30 p.m. and the cruise returns at 12:15 a.m.
