COEUR d'ALENE - A Coeur d'Alene resident returned home on Dec. 26 to find his safe had been burglarized.
According to a Coeur d'Alene Police Department report, the safe contained $25,000 in cash and a $900 video camera.
The safe, which opens with a key and combination, was missing its handle, combination dial, and key hole. Police also found evidence that the hinges of the safe door had been pried open.
Several boxes of ammunition and seven expired credit cards were also stolen.
The responding officers suspected that the culprits targeted the contents of the safe since other valuable items in the home were left untouched.
There were no signs of forced entry at the home. However, the front access door to the garage was left unlocked and the homeowner told police he had secured the door prior to his trip.
