Often athletes are recognized for their accolades preformed on the field. On Dec. 19, Polson senior and soccer star James Larson was commended for his accomplishments both athletically and academically.
The National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) elected Larson to the 2012 NSCAA High School Boys Scholar All-America team. The team is comprised of 36 high school seniors that met the criteria of at least a 3.75 GPA and is named to either All-Conference or All-State in soccer. Larson – the only player in the state of Montana to be selected – currently holds a 4.0 GPA and was named All-State for the Polson Pirates. Larson has exemplified the requirements both on and off the field including numerous hours of work in his community. “It’s pretty impressive,” said Polson’s soccer coach Jess Kittle. “He has put in a lot of hard work, it’s great to see him get recognized. What’s even more impressive is that Larson is the second Polson soccer player in as many years to be named to the Scholar’s All-America team. Last year, Polson goaltender Clay Frissell was awarded with the prestigious honor. The fact that two years running Polson soccer has been nationally recognized speaks volumes about their athletic and academic programs.
Larson is also playing for Montana United U-18 soccer team, who traveled to Portland last week for a northwestern state soccer tournament. The team is comprised of the top soccer players in Montana.
