A Whitefish man is dead after what appears to have been a dispute that led to him being shot by his wife at their home Saturday night.

According to Whitefish Police Chief Bill Dial, officers responded to the 400 block of Colorado Avenue shortly before 10 p.m.

Scanner traffic indicated neighbors heard a dispute followed by a pop before a woman showed up at their home saying she had just shot her husband.

The traffic also indicated that officers had the woman in custody within a few minutes of the call and that the firearm used against the man was still in the home.

Dial confirmed that the neighbors overheard the dispute, that the victim was a male, and that the incident was being investigated as a homicide.

“As soon as we can release things we will, but right now we’re still processing the scene,” Dial said at approximately 11:30 p.m.

At that time, a coroner was at the scene.

Also at the scene was Assistant Police Chief Mike Ferda, who said the department was trying to come up with an initial press release, although he said it would probabely not include much information.
