Basketball roundup: Glacier boys crush Sentinel

MISSOULA — The Glacier (12-3 overall, 5-2 Western AA) boys basketball team hammered Missoula Sentinel 71-50 in a Western AA conference game Tuesday.

Evan Epperly led Glacier with 18 points while Ryan Edwards scored 13 and pulled down a game-high eight rebounds.

Glacier trailed 19-16 after the first quarter but gained a 34-32 lead at the half. The Wolfpack pulled away in the third quarter, when it outscored Sentinel 19-6.

Tres Cunningham and Jake Messerly led Sentinel (2-13, 0-7) with 11 and 10 points, respectively.

MISSOULA — Missoula Big Sky (7-8 overall, 2-5 Western AA) held off a late rally to beat Flathead (8-6, 3-4) in Western AA conference action.

Trailing 44-29 with 2:49 left in the game, Flathead went on a 14-4 run but didn’t have enough time to complete the comeback.

Shea Schroeder scored 15 points to lead the Braves. Garth West scored nine and grabbed eight rebounds. Chandler Escalante scored eight.

Jesson Preston scored 14 to lead Big Sky.

LIBBY — Jared Winslow and Barak Lapka each scored 17 points and Kraig Nelson added 16 for Libby (7-9) in a nonconference win over Eureka (0-17).

The Loggers had a narrow 22-20 lead at halftime before outscoring Eureka 18-11 in the third quarter.

Tanner Blankers led Eureka with 18 points.

Josh Bray scored 21 points and had four assists and four steals to lead the Cougars. Caleb Chuang had 10 points and a team-high six rebounds.

The Cougars have one game left in the regular season, a home tilt against the Troy varsity on Thursday.

Eureka 53, Libby 40

EUREKA — Forwards Cassidy Morgan and Carli Allen scored 18 and 11 points, respectively, pacing Eureka (10-7) in a nonconference win over Libby (3-13).

Eureka led 25-18 at the half and extended its lead to 37-26 at the end of the third quarter.

“We just moved the ball well,” Eureka coach R.J. McDole said. “We got it into the post and they finished for the most part.”

Hannah England and Devon Gallagher led Libby with 15 and 13 points, respectively.

A big first half propelled Stillwater Christian (16-2) to a nonconference win over the Flathead junior varsity team Monday at Flathead High School.

Stillwater led 31-9 at halftime.

Sarah Paolini led Stillwater with 21 points and 10 rebounds while Jordan Danz added nine points, 11 rebounds and five assists.

Tana Fountain led the Flathead JV with 13 points.
