Emma Hennessey, 100, “was welcomed into the Lord’s arms” on Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013, at Whitefish Care and Rehabilitation Center.
Born Dec. 31,1912, in Memphis, Tenn., to Anna H. and Karl T. Powers, she lived in Memphis until she was 5 years of age, before moving to Whitefish.
She spent most of her life in Montana and married her life's mate, Ralph W. “Spike” Hennessey, on May 31, 1934. To this union were born Jessie, Bonnie and Ralph.
After her children were grown, Emma attended nursing school in Billings, where she received her licensed practical nurse degree and worked at the Kalispell Hospital until her retirement.
She was predeceased by her husband; daughter, Jessie; her parents; one brother; and three sisters.
She is survived by daughter, Bonnie Berger, and husband John, of Bellevue, Wash.; and son, Ralph Hennessey, and daughter-in-law Peggy, of Whidbey Island, Wash.; as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Emma was loved by many and will be sorely missed.
“We were all blessed by Emma, “Grandma Great,” and her long life. We have always considered Grandma as the ‘most beautiful woman in the world.’”
There will be a viewing from noon to 5 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 7, at Austin Funeral Home; and a graveside service at 2 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 8, at Whitefish Cemetery.
