The Superior Bobcats grabbed two key victories this week as the regular season comes to a close.

On Thursday the Bobcats traveled to Charlo for what Head Coach Chris Toivonen called “a stern test” for his squad.

“The boys rose to the occasion,” Coach Toivonen said.

Superior jumped out to a 14-point lead doing what they have done all season – playing strong defense and executing on offense. According to Coach Toivonen, the Bobcats used “excellent passing to maintain the lead in the second half and secure a victory” over the Vikings.

Clint Voll led the way for the Bobcats with 10 rebounds and six steals while senior Zach Benda played a solid defensive game and had five assists while on offense.

“Jarrod Tippens grabbed 8 boards and shot a perfect 4 for 4 from the charity stripe,” Coach Toivonen said. “Bill Smith once again was solid as a rock, handling defensive pressure while playing great defense.”

On Saturday the Bobcats put on a clinic at home against Two Eagle River – shooting 54 percent for the game and disrupting the Eagles on defense.

“We did an excellent job with our pressure, as we held the Eagles to 16 fewer shot attempts,” Coach Toivonen said.

Tippens prescence was once again felt on defense with the junior grabbing five steals while making the Eagle offense stick to outside shooting.

“Bill Smith continued to be a great help defender as he disrupted the Eagles offensive pattern and also passed out eight assists,” Coach Toivonen said. “Clint Voll grabbed 10 rebounds and Zach Benda continued his great all around play by shooting 9 for 11 from the field and snagging five rebounds for Superior.”

Coach Toivonen also mentioned the efforts of Tanner Smith and Wyatt Zylawy off the bench. Both Bobcats made “key” three-pointers and provided a spark for Superior while the starters were resting.

The Bobcats finish there regular season this week, heading to St. Regis on Thursday before hosting Noxon on Friday.
