Basketball roundup: Olson nets 28 points as Whitefish blows by Plains

WHITEFISH — 

Cooper Olson scored 16 of his season-high 28 points in the second quarter as Whitefish rolled past Plains 80-37 on Thursday in a boys nonconference basketball contest.

Olson had four of the Bulldogs’ 10 3s in the game. He scored 27 points in the first meeting with Plains this season.

Olson and Logan Harwood both had five assists. Olson also totaled eight steals to five for Harwood.

Whitefish outscored Plains 34-10 in the second quarter for a 50-22 halftime lead.

Whitefish (10-5 overall) plays at Columbia Falls on Saturday in a key Northwestern A game. Tipoff is set for 4 p.m.

Stillwater Christian rode a fast start to a nonconference victory over Troy at SCS.

Josh Bray scored 23 points and totaled three steals to pace Stillwater.

Jeremiah Hashley led the Cougars (13-8) in rebounds with five and Noah Hashley led in assists with three.

Sean Opland led Troy, and all scorers, with 15 points.

Up next for Stillwater is the MCAA state tournament in Helena on Feb. 14-16.

Jordan Danz led a balanced Stillwater attack with 14 points as the Cougars crushed Troy in a nonconference matchup at Stillwater Christian School.

Morgan Paolini added 12 points and Sarah Paolini totaled 11 for the victors.

Morgan Paolini also pulled down nine rebounds and finished with three steals.

Danz had seven rebounds and five assists. Sarah Paolini also had seven rebounds.

The next action for Stillwater (17-2) is the MCAA State Tournament in Helena Feb. 14-16.

PLAINS — Plains jumped out to a 33-15 first-half lead and coasted for the remainder of play in nonconference action.

Hailey Phillips had 16 points to pace Plains, and all scorers.

Ashlee Brewer dropped in nine points for Whitefish.

Whitefish plays a Northwestern A contest on Saturday at 6 p.m. at top-ranked Columbia Falls.
