SOAP LAKE - The Desert Diner in Soap Lake hosts a spaghetti feed Saturday to help a Grant County family coping with the loss of a father and teenage daughter.

Christian G. Schuermann, 40, and Aschlie D. Schuermann, 13, both of Moses Lake were killed Jan. 26 when a semi-truck turned in front of their vehicle 4 miles north of Moses Lake on state Route 17.

Lind Darling, of the Desert Diner, said the restaurant wanted to sponsor the spaghetti feed as a way to help the Schuermann family.

The meals costs $6.50 per person, and all proceeds will be donated to the family, she said.

The spaghetti feed is from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday at the Desert Diner on 222 Daisy St. S in Soap Lake. For more information about the event, call 509-246-1390.

Condolences and support for the Schuermann family have been pouring in from those who knew Christian and Aschlie on their Kaysers Chapel online guest book.

"Aschlie will be truly missed. She was a beautiful person on the inside as well as out," read one post.

Another friend wrote, "Aschlie wasn't just a friend she was a sister - she always had a smile for you and open arms when she saw you sad."

Christian was described as full of life in his obituary.

"He loved fast cars, his family and friends with all his heart," it read. "He never did anything half way-he put everything of himself into life."
