Flathead, Glacier boys net hoop wins

Shea Schroeder made two free throws with two seconds left to seal a 44-40 home victory for Flathead over Missoula Sentinel in Western AA boys basketball action Saturday afternoon.
Flathead (9-6 overall, 4-4 league) outscored Sentinel 15-12 in the final frame to sweep the regular-season series with the Spartans.
“It was a tight, hard-fought physical game,” Flathead coach Fred Febach said.
“It was a real struggle for both teams to score.”
Schroeder finished with 10 points to lead the Braves.
Sentinel’s top scorer was Austin Violette with 10 points.

Ryan Edwards was 10 of 11 shooting from the field en route to a 20-point performance and also pulled down 14 rebounds to push Glacier past Missoula Big Sky at Glacier High School.
“We’ve had a hard time starting the last couple games,” Glacier coach Mark Harkins said.
“So we challenged the kids to come out fast. I thought they did that today. They jumped out in front 16-6 and that was kind of a cushion for the rest of the game.”
Fourth-ranked Glacier (13-3, 6-2) swept the Western AA regular-season series with Big Sky. Glacier took the first meeting by 20 points.
Joining Edwards in double-figure scoring were Logan Iverson with 13 and Kyle Griffith with 10.

BIGFORK —Logan Lamm had a monster game in the paint for Bigfork with 15 rebounds and he also scored five points as Bigfork finished District 7B play by thumping Thompson Falls.
Top-ranked Bigfork (14-4, 8-0) exploded for 22 points in the opening quarter and 23 in the third.
Colter Trent netted 24 points for the Vikings and Christian Evans was next with 13.

MISSOULA — Top-ranked Missoula Sentinel rebounded from a loss earlier in the week at Glacier to beat Flathead in a Western AA contest.
Sentinel (15-1, 7-1) held a 23-11 halftime lead on Flathead and never was challenged in the final half.
Emma Andrews topped Flathead (7-7, 3-5) in scoring with 11 points.
Amanda Bearmedicine had 14 points for Sentinel.

Fifth-ranked Glacier (13-3, 6-2) enjoyed a 10-point edge after eight minutes of play and led 32-23 at the half.

COLUMBIA FALLS — Top-ranked Columbia Falls stayed perfect in Northwestern A play with a lopsided win over rival Whitefish.
Columbia Falls (14-3, 7-0) bolted to a 19-0 advantage to start the game.
Haley Belgarde and Winter Kemppainen had double-doubles for Columbia Falls with 16 points and 16 rebounds and 10 points and 10 rebounds, respectively.
Kathrin Jetty poured in a career high 12 points.
Allie Schulz topped Whitefish with six points.
“I’m sure happy with the way the girls are playing,” Columbia Falls coach Cary Finberg said.
“We want to continue building momentum for the tournament.”
