Windows on Whitefish, the community mosaic project spearheaded by Stumptown Art Studio, continues to offer mosaic-making classes.

The project was launched in early 2012 and involves creating a series of large mosaic murals, which will be installed on the outside of the Latitude 48 building in downtown Whitefish. The murals depict the mountain range in each of the four seasons and are designed to capture the essence of life in Whitefish.

The first mural, spring, was unveiled last fall. Work continues on the summer panel.

Deb Stika, artistic director of Windows on Whitefish, has developed the images that will be used in the murals, and will assist and instruct the general public in murals’ construction.

Community members are invited to participate by taking a $65 class, in which they will learn the art of mosaic making. Students will create their own mosaic fish with the skills they acquire in the class.

After taking the class, community members are welcome to come to any of the free community sessions to work on the actual 6- by 9-foot windows.

Upcoming fish classes are scheduled for:

• Friday, Feb. 15, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

• March 1, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

• March 5, 5 to 9 p.m.

• March 9, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

• March 17, noon to 4 p.m.

All classes and free work sessions are held at the old Coldwell Banker Building next to the old fire hall at 105 Baker Ave. in Whitefish. Space is limited to six, and preregistration is required by calling Stumptown Art Studio at 862-5929.
