Pirates upend Libby teams

Both Libby basketball teams traveled to Polson on Saturday and each suffered conference losses to the Pirates.

The Libby boys basketball team lost to Polson 54-44 to drop to 7-10, 1-6. 

Kraig Nelson scored 18 for Libby but the Pirates prevailed in the conference matchup. 

Jared Winslow and Dan Leggins had two 3-pointers each.

Nelson went 9-for-11 from the line in his productive outing. 

Libby outscored the Pirates 15-5 in the first quarter but were outscored 49-29 the rest of the game.

The Loggers will host Frenchtown on Friday for the last regular-season game.

The Libby girls basketball team suffered a similar fate, losing to Polson 49-32 to drop to 3-15, 1-5.

Malia Hamel scored 17 points for the Lady Pirates to lead all scorers. 

Hannah England led the Lady Loggers with 13 points, including four 3-pointers. 

Hailley Moe notched four steals.

Libby was hampered by its 23 percent field goal percentage.
