PLAINS - The young Trotter basketball squad had a victory at home Thursday night and a rough game on the road at Frenchtown; however, they look good to go for the 7-B District Tournament. While the Horsemen’s place in the tournament hung by the thread of a game against Eureka last night after a loss to Frenchtown over the weekend (results not available at time of press due to timeliness).

The Trotters took it to Whitefish on Thursday night, winning the game, 52-24. The young guns of the team, freshmen Carley VonHeeder and Leah Thompson, and sophomore Hailey Phillips, were all about fast-breaking and scoring on the Whitefish team, each bucketing seven (VonHeeder), eight (Thompson) and a whopping 16 (Phillips) points for the Trotter campaign. Phillips was on fire, as she was the first of the Trotters to put points to the board with a beautiful three-pointer, and from there, she didn’t let up. In the first quarter alone, Phillips posted a total of 11 points. VonHeeder also made her main showing in the first quarter, with four points of her seven.

Teammates Felicia Earhart put in nine, Sami Jo Kinzie put in two, sisters Ashley Holmes and Kayla Holmes each put in four, while senior Jessica Hansen posted two. The Trotters lost to Frenchtown on Saturday, 31-59; however, their resolve seems to appear strong going into the District Tournament in Libby this weekend.
