Schools set 2013-14 calendar

Kalispell Public Schools trustees approved a new calendar for the 2013-14 school year Tuesday.
The first day of school for students is Aug. 28 this year and the last day is June 11, 2014. Students will be in school for a total of 180 days. Snow makeup days are June 12 and 13.
Winter break is Dec. 23 through Jan. 3 and spring break goes from March 31 through April 4. A county calendar committee meets today to work with partner districts to make sure calendars share common winter and spring breaks.
At least six early-release days are scheduled for professional development. One early release day is tentatively set Nov. 8 for parent/teacher conferences.
One early dismissal not related to professional development is Jan. 31 for the state Class AA Speech and Debate tournament.
School will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. for elementary schools, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. for the middle school and 8:15 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. for high schools.
The grading periods for kindergarten through eighth grade are as follows: The first trimester is Aug. 28 through Nov. 1; the second trimester is Nov. 25 through March 7 and the third trimester is March 10 through June 10.
At the high school level, the first quarter is Aug. 28 through Nov. 1 and the second quarter Nov. 4 through Jan. 24. The third quarter is from Jan. 28 through March 28 and the fourth quarter is April 7 through June 10.
