Baseball news

Glacier Babe Ruth is taking registrations for the 2013 season. The league is for baseball players ages 13-15 from Bigfork, Columbia Falls and Whitefish. Registration forms need to be turned in by March 15. They are available online at http://glacierbaberuth.org. Mail completed forms to P.O. Post 1079 Columbia Falls MT 59912. Softball news

Columbia Falls Youth Softball Association is currently taking registrations for softball in 2013 which will begin late March. Deadline for registration is March 11. Forms can be fond in the offices of all the schools, online at www.wildkatsoftball.org or by stopping at their open gyms. The association will host open gyms at the Fellowship Alliance Church, 1025 Seventh Avenue West, in Columbia Falls, from Feb. 10 to March 24 on Sundays from 6 to 8 p.m.

Special Olympics

Special Olympics Montana will hold its 2013 State Winter Games at Whitefish Mountain Resort beginning with a parade and opening ceremonies at Depot Park in Whitefish on Sunday, Feb. 24, from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Time trials and competition will take place on Big Mountain on Monday and Tuesday, Feb. 25-26, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. For more information, visit online at www.somt.org.

A bill requiring the state to electronically verify that all foreign nationals are in the U.S. legally before issuing a Montana driver’s license or ID card was signed into law by Gov. Brian Schweitzer on April 18.

Uphill skiers need to be aware of avalanches on Big Mtn.

Whitefish Mountain Resort’s post-season uphill policy expired last week, but with significant snowfall and changing weather conditions, the resort reminds skier and hikers that avalanche hazards in the ski area’s permitted boundaries do exist.
