MLCA girls slam door on Entiat

EPHRATA - Anna Yarbro had 18 points and 29 rebounds, and Dani Sanberg added 12 points and 7 boards to lead the Moses Lake Christian Academy (MLCA) to a 40-16 district first round win over Entiat Tuesday.
"Outside of our free throw shooting, this is probably about as good an outcome as we could've expected," coach Bryce McPartland said. "Entiat is not a bad team by any means, but our players frustrated them immensely on the defensive end."
The Lady Lions jumped out to a 10-4 lead at the end of the first quarter, and took a 22-13 score into the locker room at the half.
The Tigers, down by 9 points, still had hope, but a 16-2 run by MLCA in the third quarter of play was the undoing for Entiat. A total of 3 points were scored by both teams in the final eight minutes of action.
"Entiat was without their point guard, Jaelyn Davis, who I understand to have been out with a concussion. She's a good player, and takes care of a lot of their ball handling responsibilities and it was evident they missed her," McPartland said "Taylor (Yamane) did a great job frustrating whoever brought the ball up for Entiat. Other kids may have better stats, but I don't think many teams have anyone as important to their success as Taylor is to ours, in terms of how well she sets the tone from a defensive standpoint, and how much she frustrates the other team's point guard."
The Lady Lions did have trouble at the charity strip as McPartland eluded, hitting on just one of nine attempts.
"One for nine from the line is very poor. I don't really know what more to say on this subject, other than we have got to clean it up at the free throw line," he said. "We were however, able to limit turnovers, and only had 14 for the game. That's solid for most high school teams. Being able to control the ball and get into our sets was important, because it kept Entiat playing defense for longer than I'm sure they would've liked."
The win over the Tigers advances MLCA to the championship round for a game against the Pateros Nannies Thursday at 7 p.m. The winner of the game nails down the No. 1 seed at the regional tournament. Soap Lake meets Entiat in the consolation round. The winner of that game plays the loser of the MLCA-Pateros game for the No. 2 seed and the right to advance to the regional tournament as well.
