Charter teams take top honors at competition

Coeur d'Alene Charter Academy's varsity and junior varsity Academic Teams each placed first in this year's Inland Empire Knowledge Bowl, a competition that pitted them against teams from throughout North Idaho and eastern Washington.

It is the first time a Charter Academy team has won the varsity event.

The knowledge bowl comprises 15 rounds of Jeopardy-style team competition, over a three-month period, with questions drawn from math, science, history, literature, English and politics.

The varsity team members are Leif Fredericks, Michael Harlan, Steven Baxter, and Alyssa Fortier. The JV players inlcude Elena Johnson, Amanda Johnston, Ben Rhuman, and Louis Pennings. Darren Gabrielsen is the coach.

The Inland Empire Knowledge Bowl is the largest academic competition in the region.

Charter Academy's Academic Team also competed in the Inland Empire Regional Science Bowl, winning second place.
