EPHRATA - Charges have been brought against the two Moses Lake men arrested last week for allegedly burglarizing a Moses Lake home.
Grant County prosecutors recently charged Kasey L. Hardy, 30, with residential burglary. Richard B. Ruff, 27, faces a charge of second-degree possession of stolen property in Grant County Superior Court.
Items worth an estimated $7,000 were reportedly stolen from a home on the 500 block of Glenmoor Drive on Feb. 13, according to court documents. Among the items were a 55-inch television, an Xbox gaming console, a couple pairs of designer sunglasses and a Louis Vuitton purse.
Police were notified of a suspicious person walking in a field behind a residence on West Lakeshore Drive on Feb. 13, according court records. While en route, police were also notified that a house on Glenmoor Drive was just burglarized.
According to court documents, the homeowner told police she and her husband had just gone upstairs to bed when their son came in to the room.
The couple's son reportedly told them the cat had somehow gotten in and he was going to find out how. According to court documents, the couple's son went downstairs and noticed the sliding glass door was open.
He then reportedly noticed the television and Xbox were also missing, according to court records.
Police then contacted the individual who notified police of a suspicious person walking in a field. According to court documents, the caller told police she saw one male walking with a television on his back.
The male allegedly crossed the field into the caller's yard and then stepped over her 2-foot fence into another yard.
The caller told police she could hear the subject opening a shed door and closing it a short while later, according to documents.
Police contacted the homeowner of the other residence and asked for permission to search her shed for the stolen television. The homeowner reportedly allowed police to search the shed, according to court documents.
The television was not in the shed, so police reportedly asked the homeowner if they could search the house. According to court records, police told the homeowner they knew Ruff lived there and had been in trouble for stealing before.
The homeowner reportedly told police he hadn't lived there for a while, but they could search the home.
Police reportedly found the television in a back bedroom, and the Xbox console under a bed. According to court documents, police located Hardy in a bedroom closet.
The homeowner allegedly told police she didn't know Hardy and he must have broken into her house and brought the stolen items with him, according to records. Hardy told police Ruff was also in the home, according to court documents.
Police reportedly located Ruff with the Louis Vuitton purse in a bathroom.
Ruff later allegedly told police he helped Hardy bring the television into his house, but he didn't know the television or any of the other items were stolen.
