POST FALLS - For an event that features 24 hours of bike riding, this one is still for the dogs.
Riding for Rover begins at noon Friday and wraps up at noon Saturday at Peak Health and Wellness in Post Falls.
In between, along with people pedaling on stationary bikes, will be movies, games and food, all to benefit the Kootenai Humane Society.
"All kinds of fun stuff," said Dori Peck, KHS executive director.
Last year's Riding for Rover attracted about 300 riders, 20 teams and raised $5,000.
Organizers hope to top that by offering even more merriment that includes "Pin the Tail on the Doggy," "Doggy Drinking Game," dog-themed movies and a dog show, with dogs from KHS dropping by for a visit.
There will also be a "truth or dare" time, scavenger hunt and time to play the game "Twister."
The rules aren't much, other than, "Just don't stop." Each team needs to have a cyclist on their bike for all 24 hours, and collect donations, too. That's it. Food and drink are provided.
Peck said Riding for Rover is a wonderful way to get the word into the community about KHS.
Heath Wiltsie, general manager of the Post Falls center, will be around, too, to keep legs spinning and spirits high.
Funds will go toward general operations of the shelter, which has about 40 dogs and 50 cats, and also to a scholarship program.
The shelter also recently received a shipment of rescue dogs, which included several chihuahuas and a Saint Bernard.
"He looks like Beethoven," said Peck, who will be a fill-in rider on the KHS team.
