Works of arts made from natural elements will be the theme at the Hockaday Museum of Art’s next exhibit, “Of the Earth,” which opens Feb. 28.

The exhibit includes 11 well-known artists from Montana and all over the United States with art created from natural elements such as metal, paper, natural pigments, fiber, glass, clay and wood.

The exhibit will have Pamela Caughey’s etched copper plates, Jennifer Davies’ fiber and paper, Jeanne Drevas’ nature art sculpture, Kate Hunt’s newspaper sculpture, Donna Loos’ sculptural ceramics, Richard Parrish’s kiln glass, Lee Proctor’s blown glass, Pam Rogers’ paper and natural pigments, David Secrest’s patterned metalwork, David Scott Smith’s sculptural ceramics and wooden artwork by Fred Williamson.

“Many of nature’s elements are comforting and familiar. We live in a land of vast mountain ranges and open spaces where millions of acres surround and inspire us,” Executive Director Liz Moss said. “Art created ‘of the Earth’ serves to remind us of these wild places that live in our hearts and minds.”

The exhibit’s opening reception will be Feb. 28 from 5-7 p.m. with several of the artists in attendence to take questions and speak about their artwork and inspiration.

“Of the Earth” will be on exhibit at the Hockaday Museum of Art through April 20.
