POST FALLS - Charlie Brown is coming to Post Falls High.

The school's drama department will present the musical "You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown" starting Thursday with a dinner theater fundraiser for the Post Falls Food Bank.

"We like the message," said Linda Fry, PFHS drama instructor, on why the musical was chosen. "With all the conditions in the world and society, we believe this show has a positive, upbeat message that would appeal to families, giving them hope and encouragement.

"Hopefully everyone is familiar with the 'Peanuts' comic strip and characters from all the 'Peanuts' television specials."

Thursday's dinner - catered by Garden Plaza - will be served from 5-6:30 p.m. The show starts at 7 p.m. sharp. Tickets for the dinner theater are $15 and are on sale at PFHS, Super 1 Foods-Post Falls and the food bank.

The musical will also be performed on Friday at 7 p.m. and Saturday at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Tickets for those showings are $5 and can be purchased at PFHS or Super 1 Foods.

Charlie Brown is a 1967 musical comedy based on the "Peanuts" comic strip created by Charles M. Schulz. Fry said it's a musical that she and PFHS choir teacher John Kracht have always wanted to do.

"The storyline is many of the adventures of the 'Peanuts' characters with toe-tapping, upbeat sing-along music," Fry said. "It is a wonderful show for the entire family from pre-schoolers to grandparents. Everyone can relate to Charlie Brown, whose life is filled with ups and downs, but like all of us, he just wants to be accepted, understood and loved."

Fry said the musical has been a popular choice for performing groups because of its small cast and simple staging.

"Because there are only six main characters and three extras, the emphasis is on character development and acting," she said. "The set is simple and fun to create, which has been fulfilling and a change of pace from the last couple of years."
