The Alberton Lady Panthers entered the District 13-C Tournament in Frenchtown this weekend with what Head Coach Jim Baldwin called “hopes high and a great attitude.”
Grabbing a trip to the Divisional Tournament in Hamilton this weekend was number one on the to-do-list for the Lady Panthers – who squared off against Drummond in their first game.
“The first day, Alberton tackled Drummond and fell 56 to 26,” Coach Baldwin said. “The first half was close and if the younger Panthers could have cashed in on free throws, we would have been tied - shooting 33 percent on 5/15 shooting.”
In the second half, Drummond was able to keep the momentum in their favor and secure the victory over the Lady Panthers.
“Delani Hanley led us with 11 points, followed with Ryan Vicek and Kaitylyn Galahan with five,” Coach Baldwin said.
On Thursday Alberton faced a tough Valley Christian opponent that ended the season for the Lady Panthers with a 47-27 victory.
“Delani led us with 11, and Natasha Ball finished out her senior year with 10,” Coach Baldwin said.
While the season did not end the way Coach Baldwin and his Lady Panther squad hoped, the coach has high hopes for the future of the program. “The future looks bright with five out of main six returning,” Coach Baldwin said. “I would like to take this time to thank my two seniors, Natasha Ball and Megan Drury. The parents for their support, and all the fan support throughout the season.”
