St. Regis Lady Tiger Head Coach Damian Droessler knew the competition would be fierce going into the District 14-C Tournament in Ronan.

Coach Droessler knew his team would need to come out and make a statement in the first game of the tournament against Charlo – and they did just that.

“I was very impressed with our showing at districts,” Coach Droessler said. “We knew it would be tough and would need to rise to the occasion. Coming out and winning the first game against Charlo was big, it showed we were ready to play.”

In their second match of the tournament the Lady Tigers faced off against a familiar foe – the Superior Lady Bobcats. St. Regis was unable to beat their county rival during the regular season and Superior once again came out strong and grabbed the victory.

“We lost to a very good Superior team, but played our best game against them,” Coach Droessler said.

The following morning the Lady Tigers were on the bus to Ronan at 7:00 am, which made Coach Droessler “a little nervous” since tip-off was at 9:00.

“But again the girls played well in a 35-16 win over Noxon,” Coach Droessler said.

In the Lady Tigers final game of the season they once again faced off against Charlo. The second contest saw a Lady Tiger team lacking depth on the bench succumb to being tired.

“Trying to turn around and beat Charlo again three hours later was just too much,” Coach Droessler said. “But I was so impressed with them, they played their best basketball of the year at the end, which is exactly what we wanted.”

Coach Droessler will have his entire squad back next year, along with some added depth from incoming freshman and eighth graders.

“I can’t say I am going to miss this team, because I get all of them back next year,” Coach Droessler said. “That is exciting. They have the heart to be great. This was a great step in right direction as we continue the journey.”
