Although the St. Regis Tiger basketball team’s tournament ended in just two games, first year Head Coach Byron Quinlan has a lot to look forward to.

From the beginning of the season until the final game, his squad has consistently improved and fought for four quarters.

“I’m pleased with the way we finished the season against a revamped Two Eagle team,” Coach Quinlan said. “Our team played like a family, and each team member’s effort showed. The boys have come a long way over the course of the year. I only wish that I had seniors Spur Hill, Patrick Espanola, and Shad Rich coming back.”

With this season behind, Coach Quinlan said that he will begin to instill a basketball culture in his squad – making sure his team is prepared for next season.

“As we move to the offseason, our players understand that they must pick up the basketball for more than three months,” Coach Quinlan said. “They have to work on their ball handling skills, continue to improve their shooting, and put in the time to improve their overall skill level. If our young men make the commitment to working in the offseason, St. Regis boys basketball will get itself back on track.”

Coach Quinlan added that he is excited about the up and coming Tigers he will be able to continue to coach.

“We have a lot of young talent in Dakota Wickham, Andrew Managhan, Gibson Lowry, Dallas Lewis, Keenan Clute, and Dillon Morales,” Coach Quinlan said. “These guys will have to get in the weight room, and shoot hoops from now until the start of next year.”

As for this season, Coach Quinlan said he is “pleased” with how far his squad came.

“They didn’t back down, and they didn’t quit when their backs were against the wall,” Coach Quinlan said. “Coach Nordby and I used the game of basketball to teacher our young men about life. There were plenty of life lessons to be taught over the course of the year. I’m proud that they faced adversity straight on, and never flinched. At the end of the day, our boys can look themselves in the mirror and know they gave it their all. Now, it’s time for them to give it their all to make themselves better athletes in the offseason.”
