COEUR d'ALENE - The 36-year-old father of a toddler who was found wandering alone along Government Way near Sully's Pub earlier this month is scheduled to be arraigned on March 5.
Jesse W. Edwards Jr., of Coeur d'Alene, has been charged with injury to a child for the Feb. 10 incident, according to court documents.
Edwards didn't immediately return a call seeking comment Thursday.
Witnesses told The Press the 2-year-old boy was wandering close to traffic on Government Way and drivers were stopping to check on the boy's safety. The boy was brought into the bar and employees there called police.
The boy told police he didn't know where his father was, and police found Edwards later that day at the Hayden Walmart.
Edwards told police he usually takes his son to Edwards' parents' house in Athol and he thought he had done so on this day, too, according to an affidavit by an Idaho State Police trooper.
When asked by police why his son was found wandering along a busy roadway two miles from the Walmart, Edwards responded, "I don't know what the hell happened," the affidavit said.
Edwards also told police he had ingested methamphetamine within 48 hours of the incident.
Edwards was initially booked into Kootenai County jail but posted $300 bail.
