Hunter education classes scheduled

• Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks will offer free hunter education classes at the Columbia Falls High School on April 11, 15, 16, 18, 22, 23 and 25 from 7 to 9 p.m. with a field course on Saturday, April 27, and test night on April 30. By state law, anyone born after Jan. 1, 1985, must complete the course to buy a hunting license in Montana.

Register by March 23 online at fwp.mt.gov, click education. A mandatory orientation will take place at the Columbia Falls fire hall on March 26 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Students must bring their permission slips with them at that time, and they will receive their manuals and assignments. • Bowhunter education classes for the Columbia Falls area willtake place at the North Valley Community Center, on Nucleus Avenue, on June 11 and 13 from 6:30 to 9 p.m. with a field course on June 15 from 9 a.m. to noon. Test night will be June 17 from 6:30-9 p.m. For more information, call Dave Yeats at 892-4527.

Registration will be done online at http://my.register-ed.com/event/studentchooseevent. Students 18 or older may take the course online at www.bowhunter-ed.com/mt/index.htm, but field day options are limited to July 20 at the Flathead Valley Trap Club in Kalispell unless arrangements can be made with an instructor. Uphill skiers need to be aware of avalanches on Big Mtn.

Whitefish Mountain Resort’s post-season uphill policy expired last week, but with significant snowfall and changing weather conditions, the resort reminds skier and hikers that avalanche hazards in the ski area’s permitted boundaries do exist.
