Two swift losses to Northwestern A teams bumped Libby from the basketball playoffs this weekend, and the senior-heavy team walked away with a 7-13 record.

The Polson Pirates, Libby’s closest competition in conference, slipped away with a 47-40 win on Thursday after their 6-foot, 2-inch guard, Will Davey, lit up for 16 points.

“Davey had his best offensive game of the season,” said Libby Head Coach Wally Winslow. “He had struggled shooting from the perimeter so we left him open. He buried a three.”

It was Davey’s first 3-pointer of the season, said Polson Coach Brad Pluff.

The loser-out consolation game Saturday morning was another loss, as Whitefish hit 11 3-pointers to knock the Loggers out, 65-41. Whitefish held Libby’s leading scorer, Jared Winslow, scoreless.

“They played the best first quarter I have seen all year,” Winslow said of the Bulldogs. “They missed one 3-pointer and one two-pointer. That was it.”

The Bulldogs outscored Libby 29-12 in that fateful first quarter. The Loggers were playing catch-up from that point on.
