Hosts needed for BLM campgrounds in area
Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 12 years, 9 months AGO
The Bureau of Land Management's Coeur d'Alene District is looking for volunteer campground hosts for the upcoming summer season at two distinctly different locations.
The first location is Mica Bay Boaters Park, located about 10 minutes south of Coeur d'Alene along the west shore of Lake Coeur d'Alene.
The tucked away boat-in recreation site offers 15 campsites, a picnic pavilion, fishing docks and a swim area. Road access to the site is limited to administrative use or foot traffic; therefore, RV camping, other than the camp host site, is not available.
The camp host at Mica Bay performs minor maintenance such as lawn mowing and weed trimming, with tools provided by the BLM. The host also monitors visitor use and provides information to users about the site and surrounding area.
The work schedule for this opportunity is Thursday through Sunday, as well as one additional floating day during the week. Volunteer reimbursement rates are about $100 per week paid at the end of each month.
The second location is the Hammer Creek Recreation Site along the free-flowing Lower Salmon River south of Grangeville. Hammer Creek is a popular destination for camping, picnicking and swimming, as well as a common put-in site for rafters floating the river. The Hammer Creek site offers 12 campsites.
The camp host makes visitor contacts, provides area information and assists with minor maintenance such as painting, cleaning and weed trimming. The BLM is seeking a host that would live on-site from mid-June through Thanksgiving. The host site is fully accessible with water, electricity and sewer. Reimbursement is paid on a monthly basis.
