More ideas shared for Moses Lake's future

MOSES LAKE - Ideas for the Moses Lake vision statement were finally put on paper at a public workshop Monday night.
Attendees at the workshop, held at the Civic Center, were put into small groups to create what they wanted the vision statement to look like in categories including retail and dining, healthy lifestyles, the lake, and beautification of the city. More retail and dining options received the most interest from the community at past workshops, with healthy lifestyles a close second. Healthy lifestyles includes outdoor recreation, trails, parks, youth activities and community gardens, to name a few.
Many of the ideas introduced included partnering with other local communities and resources for future plans.
The current vision statement, last updated in 1995, is 11 pages long, much longer than most city's statement. The new statement will likely be shortened to one page, to make it a comprehensive read for potential businesses.
Moses Lake Mayor Bill Ecret and Councilmember Dick Deane were in attendance. Ecret stressed the importance of community involvement, not only in the updating process, but as part of the vision statement.
Only a small group of about 20 was in attendance, but Assistant Planner Billie Muñoz said she was pleased to see many new faces.
The vision statement will be updated as part of the city's comprehensive plan, which guides future development within the city.
