Two Columbia Falls men pleaded not guilty Thursday in Flathead District Court to charges stemming from one of them allegedly pretending to be a police officer.

Robert Konya, 23, is charged with felony impersonating a public servant. Skylar Nelson, 27, is charged with felony assault with a weapon.

According to a court document, Flathead County deputies responded to Packer’s Roost in Coram on Feb. 9 after receiving a report that someone had pointed a gun at people in a car.

The victims said there had been an altercation between them, Konya and Nelson. When the people tried to leave, Konya allegedly approached their vehicle and said he was a police officer, asking them to get out. When they asked him for identification, he allegedly flashed his wallet.

Nelson then allegedly approached the passenger side of the car and pointed a pistol at them, at which point they drove away.

Deputies reported finding a black BB pistol in plain view on the passenger side floorboard of Konya’s vehicle.

Konya allegedly told deputies he was not a police officer but had tried to become one.

The next hearings for both men are May 8.
