USFS Condon Work Center to host snowshoeing day

For the third year in a row snowshoeing enthusiasts will celebrate National Winter Trails Day at the U.S. Forest Service Condon Work Center on Jan. 12.

Beginners will meet at 10 a.m. and experienced snowshoe enthusiasts will meet at 12:30 p.m. at the work center.

For beginners, the day will begin with an introduction to snowshoeing basics, features, vocabulary, and safety before taking a one-mile excursion. Before the class is over, participants will have the opportunity of travel on several short trails offering a variety of terrain and snow conditions.

The morning program will adjourn at noon, morning snowshoers may join the afternoon program which will adjourn at approximately 3:30 p.m. The afternoon group will snowshoe the Holland Lake trail system, location depending on snow conditions.

Participants should bring a small daypack with water, snacks or lunch. Layered clothing, warm hat, gloves and extra socks are recommended. Snowshoes are available for free, but donations are accepted.
