Edna Auralia Smith, 96, passed away Dec. 31, 2012, in Post Falls. Born to George and Lela Dyer in St. John, Wash., on July 14, 1916; Edna attended Worley High School which she graduated from in 1933. On Nov. 7, 1937, Edna was married to Frank Eastman Smith in Worley where they farmed together for 50 years. Edna moved to Coeur d’Alene after Frank passed away in 1994.
Edna immensely enjoyed gardening and crafts. She belonged to the Worley Grange and spent 18 years as a leader for 4H. In 1963, she was named leader of the year for 4H and placed in the 4H Hall of Fame in Washington, D.C. She also contributed 52 years of service with the 4H board and the fair board. She was also the recipient of numerous other awards and was even a founding member of the Worley Homemaker’s Club.
Edna is survived by sons, Terry Smith (Jaye) of Coeur d’Alene, Gene Smith (Bertie) of Post Falls and stepson Steven (Delinda) Young. She is also survived by six grandchildren: Debbie, Brian, Cindy, Shawn, Lindsay and Ray; as well as two step-grandchildren: Spencer and Matthew Young. Edna also has two great-grandchildren: Alexandra and Kalvin Loraas.
Edna is preceded in death by her husband, Frank; and her four brothers: Ken, George, Lloyd and Glenn.
The family has requested that contributions be made to River City Hospice, 3726 E. Mullan Ave., Post Falls, ID 83854.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013, at English Funeral Chapel, Coeur d’Alene, with burial to follow at Forest Cemetery in Coeur d’Alene.
