Glacier grapplers finish 4th at Pacific Northwest Wrestling Classic

SPOKANE — Glacier’s Lucas Mantel (132), Jackson Barber (160) and Dawson Day (182) all won individual titles at the Pacific Northwest Wrestling Classic on Saturday.
Mantel decisioned Rielly Smith of University High in the finale, 10-3. He won twice by pin and a technical fall to reach the final.
Barber pinned Trevor Eicher of Deer Park in their final in 3:00.
Barber won his early matches on two pins and a major decision.
Day pinned Will Bishop of Hanford in the championship match in 3:25.
Day had a first-round bye and followed that with a pin and a decision to reach the final.
The Wolfpack totaled 130 1/2 points in the two-day event to place fourth.
University High of Spokane took first place, 237 1/2, followed by Deer Park, 154 1/2, and Chiawana, 132 1/2.
Glacier’s Cody Decker finished third at 120, Alek Mitchell was fifth at 145, and Kaleb Mitchell was sixth at 138.
The Wolfpack had 10 wrestlers competing and six placed.
Glacier won this tournament last year and had three individual champions.
“I thought they finished really well,” Glacier coach Mark Fischer said of his players.
“This is a great tournament to start off the new year.
“Our three champions really looked outstanding,” he added.
“They had a breakout tournament ... took a stride in the right direction going into the last part of the season.”
