Petryk's goal in 3rd lifts 'Tips past Chiefs

EVERETT, Wash. - Reid Petryk scored twice - including the game-winner on a penalty shot in the third period - and the Everett Silvertips defeated the Spokane Chiefs 3-2 in Western Hockey League action Friday night in front of 4,988 at Comcast Arena.

Petryk was awarded the penalty shot with 2:44 remaining in the game when he broke loose on a breakaway, but was hauled down by Spokane defenseman Reid Gow.

Everett held a two-goal lead early in the second period before Mike Aviani and Blake Gal scored to tie the game midway through the third.

The Chiefs outshot the Silvertips 35-26.

Spokane (24-13-1-0, 49 points), which had two assits from Todd Fiddler, plays at Seattle tonight at 7.
