High-speed chase yields felony charges
Jesse Davis | Hagadone News Network | UPDATED 12 years AGO
The man apprehended by an Evergreen couple following a high-speed chase with police has been charged with five felonies and one misdemeanor.
Jordan Elliott, 26, is charged with felony counts of theft, criminal endangerment, assault with a weapon, assault on a peace officer and criminal mischief, as well as misdemeanor fleeing from or eluding a police officer, court records said.
The bevy of charges could net Elliott between two and 61 years in jail as well as a fine of up to $252,000. That does not include the possible revocation of his prior sentences on drug convictions.
Another court document containing the allegations against Elliott states that the chase began after an East Evergreen Drive man reported his wife’s 1999 Honda Accord was stolen from their driveway and was being held on Wishart Road by Elliott in order to strip it of parts.
When deputies arrived at the Wishart Road residence, Elliott allegedly fled out the back, got into the stolen car and drove away, exceeding 60 miles per hour while driving through the neighborhood. Once on Whitefish Stage Road, the speed increased to more than 100 miles per hour as Elliott reportedly swerved in and out of lanes, ran a red light and drove in the wrong lane, nearly sideswiping an oncoming car.
Elliott entered the opposing lane of traffic again at U.S. 2 and Cottonwood Drive, at which point one of the deputies moved to the inside of Elliott so oncoming traffic could be warned of the danger by his emergency lights.
Elliott then allegedly turned in front of the deputy on purpose, causing the deputy to collide with the left rear of the Honda, driving it off the road and into the parking lot of Evergreen Gas and Deli. It was at that point that Elliott left the vehicle and fled on foot, eventually ending up in the yard of Michael Stephens and Amy Luis, who were able to apprehend him after a struggle and hold him for police.
The deputy whose vehicle struck Elliott’s was treated for lower back and right elbow pain caused by the crash, which resulted in roughly $500 worth of damage to the patrol vehicle and $2,000 worth of damage to the Honda.
Elliott, who is being held on a $75,000 bond, is scheduled for an arraignment hearing on Jan. 24.
