Kalispell tackles water well woes

Kalispell officials said they may have to replace the pump and motor at the city’s Grandview water well, where components were last replaced five years ago.
The pump and motor went down last September.
Public works employees tried to get them working again without replacement, but the system malfunctioned again and remains non-operational.
“We’ll know more once they get pulled and broken down,” City Manager Doug Russell said. That inspection is under way and replacement could cost up to $40,000.
Grandview is one of four production wells in the city’s upper-zone water system to supply, distribute and maintain operational and fire storage. The well can produce 700 gallons per minute.
Loss of the well does not pose any immediate concerns in terms of insufficient fire protection, water supply or water pressure.
“We’re able to operate the system with full operation at current level with it being off-line,” Russell said.
The goal is to get the well back in operation by summer, when demand for water increases.
