CHENEY - Collin Chiverton scored 22 points and Venky Jois had 14 points and 14 rebounds as Eastern Washington defeated Northern Arizona 82-59 on Thursday night.
"Tonight Collin looked like he did last year when he was at his best," said EWU coach Jim Hayford of Chiverton, who missed six games from Nov. 30 to Dec. 22 for personal reasons. "What I like the most is seeing him play with a smile on his face and enjoying basketball."
Martin Seiferth added 13 points and eight rebounds for the Eagles (4-11, 2-3 Big Sky), and Thomas Reuter had seven assists. Eastern Washington committed 19 turnovers and shot just 8 of 20 from the free-throw line, but overcame that by hitting 8 of 17 3-pointers and shooting 50 percent overall from the field.
DeWayne Russell led Northern Arizona (5-10, 2-3) with 17 points, and Michael Dunn had 11.
The Lumberjacks scored the first seven points of the game before the Eagles rallied and took the lead at 16-15 on a jumper by Jois.
EWU hosts Sacramento State on Saturday.
