Holmberg lifts Chiefs past Ice

SPOKANE - Mitch Holmberg had two goals and an assist to lead the Spokane Chiefs past the Kootenay Ice 4-2 in Western Hockey League play Saturday night in front of 6,047 at the Spokane Arena.

Holmberg opened the scoring midway through the first period with a power-play goal and then assisted on Brendon Kichton's 14th goal of the season to give Spokane a 2-0 lead after the first.

Kootenay cut the deficit to 2-1 early in the second, then Holmberg scored his team-high 27th goal of the year to make it 3-1.

Dylan Walchuk capped the scoring for Spokane in the third period on an assist by Kichton.

Spokane outshot Kootenay 35-27.

Eric Williams had 25 saves for Spokane (28-14-1-0, 57 points), which travels to Kelowna on Wednesday.
