The bottom floor of the Summit House on Big Mountain at Whitefish Mountain Resort was flooded Friday evening, Jan. 11, after a small fire caused a water line to break.

Resort spokeswoman Riley Polumbus said they aren’t sure what caused the fire. The blaze started near an incoming water line, damaged a meter box and caused the line to pump water into the building throughout the night.

The fire was put out by the spewing water, Polumbus said. The Summit House has a fire suppression system, but it wasn’t activated by this incident. Big Mountain Fire Department is investigating the blaze.

The Summit House was temporarily closed Saturday. Fans were brought in to dry out the carpet on the bottom floor.
