SANDPOINT — Two Bonner County teens have been implicated in a home-invasion battery that occurred earlier this month.

Jonathan A. McCormick is charged with two counts of unlawful entry and single counts of battery and obstructing law officers. A second teen, who is only partially identified in court documents, is facing a similar set of charges, according to a probable cause affidavit in the case.

McCormick, 16, and the accomplice are accused of entering a classmate’s home through a unlocked bedroom window and attacking the alleged victim as he lay in bed, a police report said.

The incident occurred in the 1600 block of Hickory Street shortly before midnight on Jan. 8.

The alleged victim’s brother heard the commotion and intervened.

After a brief scuffle, McCormick and the other teen fled the home and drove off, the report said.

A Sandpoint Police officer encountered the suspect vehicle on Pine Street and attempted to pull it over. The occupants of the vehicle sped off, ditched the car in a condominium complex parking lot and took off on foot.

Both were later apprehended after a lengthy foot pursuit. McCormick was tracked to a residence on Janelle Way and surrendered without incident. McCormick allegedly told police he went to that residence because he knew the homeowner’s grandson.

The other teen was apprehended after doubling back to retrieve the vehicle they were driving, according to Sandpoint police reports.

Both teens, the reports said, admitted their involvement and said the attack was in response to rumors concerning McCormick.

Both suspects are free on their own recognizance while their cases are pending in juvenile court.
