GUNS: Bullish on bullets, not ballet
Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 12 years, 11 months AGO
To all you holier-than-thou types who have been writing in about the satanic NRA and its evil followers who insist on having those witches’ familiars called guns: I am one of your evildoers — a proud life member of the NRA and a sworn lover of guns and shooting (at paper targets, not people). I have never hunted, being born and raised in New York City, where hunting opportunities were rather limited. I often dreamed of it but equipping for hunting and traveling to a place where it could be done was out of the question financially.
I never had or even saw a gun until I enlisted in the army in World War II days. There I developed a deep appreciation and respect — even a liking — for them. Now I shoot whenever I get the chance and enjoy it immensely.
You have other pursuits? You have my best wishes. I’m sorry I don’t have yours but I can do without them. Besides the fun of shooting, I have the satisfaction of knowing that I’m prepared to deal with uninvited visitors. Good luck with your baseball bats. That would be funny if it weren’t so tragic.
Regarding recent asinine remarks about the silliness of being prepared for such visits, please acquaint yourself with what goes on in the world today. As for large capacity magazines I recently had an opportunity to buy a rifle with a 100-round magazine but I couldn’t afford it. I would have loved to blast away with it at the range.
I regret if that offends you but I don’t apologize for it. Nor do I expect you to apologize for my negative reactions to your love for the ballet or whatever it is that gives you pleasure.
