Basketball polls: Glacier, Bigfork boys on top

The Glacier and Bigfork boys basketball teams top their respective classes in the latest Associated Press poll released Wednesday.
Glacier retained the top spot in Class AA after notching a 31-point win over Class A Whitefish to improve to 9-1 while Bigfork (9-3) moved up from second place in Class B after previous No. 1 Rocky Boy lost to unranked Harlem. Glacier’s only loss this season was at Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, while all three of Bigfork’s losses came against Class A competition.
Great Falls C.M. Russell is second in Class AA, followed by Billings Skyview, Billings West and Missoula Hellgate. Flathead and Helena Capital also received votes.
Florence and Malta were close second and third choices behind Bigfork in Class B while Rocky Boy dropped to No. 4.
Laurel was the unanimous No. 1 choice in Class A ahead of Stevensville, Dillon, Butte Central and Browning. Whitefish and Glendive also received votes.
Defending state champion Fairview retained its spot atop the Class C poll.
In the girls’ poll, Columbia Falls hung onto the third spot in Class A after beating conference foe Frenchtown on the road. Hamilton and Butte Central retained the first and second spots.
Unbeaten Missoula Sentinel and Helena Capital remained No. 1 and 2 in Class AA while Great Falls moved up to No. 3. Billings Senior and Butte round out the top five.
Fairfield and Belt topped the Class B and Class C polls, respectively.
