The National Endowment for the Arts has awarded Glacier Symphony and Chorale a $10,000 Challenge America Fast-Track Grant.
The money will help support the organization’s weeklong Festival Amadeus, which is scheduled for Aug. 4 through 10 in Whitefish.
The grant is one of 153 awards made in this funding round by the NEA. The grants total $1.53 million to organizations in 41 states; Washington, D.C.; and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
“We are delighted to receive this grant to support Festival Amadeus,” said Alan Satterlee, Glacier Symphony and Chorale’s executive director. “It will provide us with support to ensure that the highest quality artists and musicians join the festival.
“Additionally, the open-air concert to kick off the festival is quite expensive to produce, and the grant will help offset those expenses. This funding will build upon the great strides we’ve made over the past five years in our summer music programming.”
The Challenge America Fast-Track category offers support primarily to small and midsized organizations for projects that extend the reach of the arts to populations whose opportunities to experience the arts are limited by geography, ethnicity, economics or disability.
“The NEA was founded on the principle that the arts belong to all the people of the United States,” NEA Chairman Rocco Landesman said. “We're proud that Challenge America Fast-Track grants bring more opportunities for arts engagement to underserved communities.”
