EPHRATA - A man is serving more than a year in prison for stabbing a man in a Moses Lake apartment.

Jerry R. Perry, 25, of Moses Lake, pleaded guilty to second-degree burglary and second-degree assault in Grant County Superior Court, according to court records.

Prosecutors initially charged Perry with first-degree assault, according to court records. The assault charge was lessened and the burglary charge was added as part of the plea agreement.

Perry's prior felony convictions include residential burglary, second-degree theft and second-degree possession of stolen property, according to court records. When combined with his present convictions, Perry faced a sentencing range of a year to a year and two months in prison.

Grant County Superior Court Judge Evan Sperline sentenced Perry to a year and a month in prison, according to court records.

Perry admitted to stabbing the man in a Third Avenue apartment, claiming the victim was the person who shot him in August while he was riding his bike near Home Depot, according to a Moses Lake police report. He also alleged the victim was involved with another incident, assaulting him with a board.

The victim reported not knowing why Perry attacked him, saying he saw the man around the complex, but only knew him as Perry.

Perry went to the victim's apartment to sell a container of anti-psychotic and blood pressure medications, according to the police report. The victim woke to Perry knocking on the door. When he opened the door, Perry entered the residence and began hitting the victim in the head and upper body.

The victim didn't realize Perry was stabbing him, according to the police report. The victim pushed Perry out of the apartment and went to grab something to defend himself. When he turned around, he saw Perry fleeing the scene.

The victim went to a neighbor's residence was transported to Samaritan Healthcare for treatment, according to the police report. Perry stabbed him multiple times in the back and once in the neck.

Police found Perry walking on North Stratford Road. Officers found the brown coat Perry wore when he stabbed the man near the bike path on West Marina Drive. Police found blood on the coat, and a bottle of pills in a pocket.
