Stained glass, psanky classes at Hockaday

Artist Kathy Martin offers two classes for adults this winter at the Hockaday Museum of Art.

Stained glass for beginners will be offered Feb. 16 and 24, from 1 to 4 p.m.

Learn the basics of stained glass or refresh your rusty skills in this two-session class. Students will receive step-by-step instructions on glass cutting, pattern preparation, foiling and soldering to complete a suncatcher or small-panel project.

Classes are limited to five participants so students may receive individualized instruction.

Cost is $55 for museum members, $60 for nonmembers. Tool use and materials for beginning and intermediate skill level projects are included in the fee; please indicate your skill level when registering.

Martin teaches batik-style egg decorating from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. March 16.

Create beautifully decorated eggs using beeswax and dyes. Step-by-step instruction will include using a kistka wax pen, applying dyes, wax removal and finishing touches on your psanka (Ukrainian Easter egg).

It’s suggested that students bring one to two blown eggs to class. Non-blown eggs will be provided for those who don’t bring their own.

Cost is $25 for museum members, $30 for nonmembers. All materials and tools will be provided for in-class use.
